Google is now unfurling its noise cancellation feature in Google Meet on smartphones, both Android and iOS. While Google's video conferencing service had introduced noise cancellation in June for web, it is now expanding it to our phones according to a recent blog published under G Suite Updates (https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/09/filter-out-disruptive-noise-in-google.html).
“Meet will automatically remove distracting ( from your mobile device’s audio input while still letting your voice through”, writes the G Suite Team. Background noises such as typing, closing a door or the sounds of a nearby construction site will be filtered. However, voices from TV or people talking at the same time won’t be filtered out.
This feature will be visible in 1-3 days starting September 28, 2020. The feature is OFF by default for the end-users and has no admin controls.
According to the blogpost, availability of the feature is as follows:
Available to G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Enterprise for Education customers
Not available to G Suite Basic, G Suite Business, G Suite for Education, and G Suite for Non-profits customers
Not currently available in some countries (currently including South Africa, the UAE, and surrounding locales).
