Victoria's Secret Accused of Stealing Designs - Again!

Victoria’s Secret is an American lingerie, clothing and beauty company, known for being the largest fashion retailer in the United States. It was founded in 1977 and has hence grown into a multinational company, with stores all over the world. In its heyday, the company defined lingerie fashion in various parts of the world.

Along with its popularity, it has made it to the news for copying designs from predominantly black-owned companies. This isn’t the first time that the lingerie giant has been called out for stealing designs. In 2019, the self-proclaimed fashion monitoring body Diet Prada claimed that some of the designs released by Victoria’s Secret were eerily similar to those by celebrity loved brand Fleur du Mal. It was later revealed that an associate buyer for Victoria’s Secret had purchased Fleur du Mal’s lingerie worth $12,656 right before the copy came out.

The high-end lingerie label is once again accused of selling lingerie with “distinct signature elements from black-owned lingerie brand- Edge O’ Beyond.” This revelation was also made by Diet Prada in an Instagram post that said- ‘Troubled lingerie retailer and repeat offender @victoriassecret refuses to just go out of business in peace'. It was also brought to notice that Destiney Bleu, designer for LA-based lingerie label d.bleu.dazzled, had received lingerie orders by someone with the same name as the VP of design for Victoria’s Secret. The brand has been increasingly sloppy in its ways, even when the ways include stealing, which is the reason it is becoming infamous for making the fashion headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Despite its success in the 1990s and 2000s, the company has been losing relevance for the general buyer. It has been mentioned in various articles about brands that we are going to be seeing less of in the upcoming years. The brand recently announced that it would be closing up 250 stores. The downfall is easily the result of its treacherous ways and habits.
