Uncharted Destinations: Part 2

2020 has surprisingly escalated our desire to go out and travel. The travel industry has been shut for over 6 months now. Though most of us would refrain from travelling, there are few places you would want to visit in the post-pandemic world. Here is another destination that you can put on your travel list

Mainpath, Chhattisgarh (Shimla of Chhattisgarh)

Chhattisgarh is often known for its tribal culture and dense forest cover. However, it is also home to Tibetian religious exiles. Mainpat is an underrated hill station with lush green valleys and breathtaking waterfalls. The hill station hasn’t been completely commercialized yet and receives a relatively smaller influx of tourists compared to its counterparts. Mainpath is a village 55km from Ambikapur and is well known for its Tibetian culture. The travellers experience an enthralling trip because of the view. The fields of Mainpath are covered with white and yellow crops. It has numerous adventurous sports like Trekking, Zorbing Ball, Rapling etc. It is also famous for Bisar Pani where the water flows upstream. There are some tourist attractions which might surprise you.

Jaljali

Jaljali is absolutely a natural wonder. It is a natural trampoline. People have noticed land vibrating. It works exactly like a trampoline and produces subtle vibrations. It is rightly called ‘Bouncing Land’. Though there are no scientific explanations found yet, the locals believe that there might have been a water source that dried up later. However, no one knows a clear explanation of it.

Dhakpo Shedupling Monastery

Due to its history, Mainpath is quite famous for its Tibetian population. The Tibetian population is often known as Dhakpo in Chhattisgarh. It is home to numerous monasteries. The most visited one is Shedupling. It is a Gelug monastery and is relatively smaller than its north-eastern and Nepalese counterparts and has Buddhist relics and artefacts.

Bhutahi Jalprapat

As funny as it sounds, Bhutahi is located 6 kilometres from Mainpat. It is a flowing stream of water that is said to resemble the movements of a snake as it makes its way on a zig-zag pathway. The flowing stream looks white as a pearl and moves with such sheer force that it produces a loud scary sound and its characteristic sound is exactly why the name of the place - Bhutahi Jharna.

Parpatiya Sunpoint and Mehta point

There are quite a few amazing viewpoints in Mainpath. The Parpatiya point is a must for all sunset lovers. It offers an iconic view as one can see the neighbouring hills appearing like a cube. Mehta point is another tourist spot for bird watchers as it covers the view of green landscapes and valleys.

Chhattisgarh is often an underrated tourist attraction because of the Naxalite activities in the state. People often scarp their plans because not many people visit Chhattisgarh. However, the reality is very different from the above-perceived notion of travellers. Chhattisgarh is the ‘go-to place’ for an offbeat traveller. It has enormous potential for tourism that needs to be unearthed.
