Street Food of Vellore

Everything was going just fine till the mid of March when suddenly vacations were announced and then we had a lockdown enforced. As life is gradually coming to normal, all of us have become more cautious about hygiene, and this goes for food too. Street Food is very popular across the world, and it has to maintain better hygiene standards now. Vellore offered some great street food, in fact, I started having street food in Vellore. So, today, I will share some of my favourite street food items and hidden gems in Vellore.

Starting with the Momos from Eden Momos, Gate-1 - this place has a separate fanbase among VITians. If you are craving something really spicy and filling, you've got to try the schezwan momos. This place also serves steamed and fried momos with the classic red chilli sauce and mayonnaise.

Next on the list is Limra. Limra is also a kind of street food place, most of its items are tasty, and for street food lovers, this is a go-to place. Rolls, noodles, even burgers and pasta, everything is served here, and it is pocket-friendly and delicious too.

Then comes Sukha Puri and Paani Puri from Gate-2, near Limra. You could easily find VITians flocking to the two vendors for their share of their favourite street food. Rs. 10 for a plate of Sukha Puri is a great deal.

Now, let’s talk about the hidden gems of Vellore. This includes Chicken 65 and Idiyappam (a steamed rice noodle dish) from the shop next to Belgian Waffles. This kind of Fried Chicken is a Vellore special and is really tasty.

Next on the list is Atho from Burmese Cuisine and a very popular street food dish. Made with Noodles and crackers spices along with various spices and sauces, Atho is a treat for your taste buds. It's available near Vellore Fort.

We all love to have Tea and Coffee, and we all have our timings set for our visit to tea shops, and we have our personal favourites. Like I prefer going to the one in front of gate-3 and Bunkers Pyaali for Kulhad Chai, which is one of a kind in Vellore.

My other favourite places to go for street food are the Sugar Cane Juice shop in front of Gate-1A and the Juice Shop near All Mart, where you can stop for a quick snack and Juice in between classes. I don’t know when I will be able to visit all my nostalgic places with my friends again, hopefully soon.

These are the best street food places in Vellore, hope you’ll like them. Do visit my page on Instagram @wannabefoodii for more food stories from Vellore.
