In a very disheartening event, Scottish movie actor Sean Connery passed away on 31st of October at the age of 90. Connery was best known for his role in the Bond movies. He was the first to portray James Bond and to bring the role to the big screen. He appeared in seven of the thrillers.
Sean came from a very humble background, and was raised in near poverty in Edinburgh. He worked menial jobs of a coffin polisher and milkman, until his hobby of body building led to him pursuing a career in acting. “I grew up with no notion of a career, much less acting,” he said. “I certainly never have plotted it out. It was all happenstance, really.”
Sean’s acting career spanned a total of five decades, during which he worked in movies like The Hunt for Red October, Highlander, Indiana Jones, The Rock. In 1988, he won an Oscar for his role as Jimmy Malone in the Untouchables. James Bond film producers also mourn the demise of Sean Connery. The film’s twitter handle stated-, “We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words — “The name’s Bond… James Bond” — he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”
He undoubtedly set a standard for those following him in the role of Bond. Daniel Craig, the current James Bond, stated that Sir Sean was "one of the true greats of cinema. Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style.” At the age of 59, Sean was declared the “sexiest man alive” by the People magazine.
His demise has saddened the hearts of many, fans and family alike. He fought the battle of dementia for years, and his wife believes that he is in a better place. In her words, “this was no way for him to live”. Sean Connery is, and will always be remembered as the original James Bond - British agent 007.
