Indian Production Houses

The Indian music scene is in a lot of talks today. On one side some producers are remaking songs from all across the world and using it in Bollywood movies and on the other side we have a bunch of talented artists who are all here to compose new music with authentic lyrics and the results are the Bollywood songs get a better response. Today I am here to break it to you of how this happens.

Big production houses of this nation like T-Series, Red Chilli Entertainment and many others, focus more on the playback music production for movies, and in doing so they recycle from past and it's quite rare that we see them generating a new track. Now a lot of you might say that even Bollywood has a new song, but it is created to use the same progression over and over again. To those of you who do not have a music background, let me break it down further to you. Usually, Bollywood songs work on similar time signatures where the composers and the producers do not experiment with the beats and the tempo of the song. We can notice that the time signature is pretty much 4/4 in all the songs with increment or decrement in the tempo and the reason behind is the producers and composers of the particular song.

You will be surprised to know that there are institutions in this nation where students are trained to produce, mix, and master Bollywood songs. Since these sound engineers are restricted to learn all about Bollywood music, they lack on the creative side of this task. I am quoting one of the faculties from this anonymous institute who stated "4/4 pe tempo daalo, sad song ke liye A minor scale and happy ke liye G ya A scale and shift the scale according to the vocalist" and this is how I can summarize entire Bollywood music in one line. This is a trend that is set up in this industry and people do not want to experiment as the target audience is happy with what they listen to.

In this race, the vocalist, producers, and composers who experiment daily are not signed by big production houses and hence a whole lot of talent goes unnoticed. There are only very few artists in this country who raised themselves to the heights at which they are on their own. Artists like Prateek Kuhad, The Local Train and many others still do not sign most of the contracts by the production houses just because they are restricted from their creative inputs to the song.

It is high time that the production houses of this nation start experimenting with new and raw artists before another production house takes the limelight and the youth completely lose interest.
