This is why I never advise people to go on a diet. There are several diets designed and defined across the globe for various people. Keto, Paleo, Carnivore and so many more. All of them HAVE worked for various people across the world and that's the very reason they have been proclaimed. However, the only time a diet works is when YOU are comfortable with it. As long as you are comfortable with that form of diet only then will you be able to stick with it.
If you have been living off absolute junk fast food for the major part of your life then it is very unlikely that you would suddenly prefer a bowl of Kale salad over some Buffalo wild. And hence you would never be able to stick to it for more than a month. Remember fitness is not temporary, it's a lifestyle. Most of us are not competing hence going on a strict diet for 6 months just for a single photoshoot is pointless if you reverse back all that weight. Do not treat this as a 400m sprint, treat it like a 20km Marathon. If you sprint too fast for even the first few kilometers you are sure to gas out and pass out. Personally speaking if I had to eat a bowl of Kale salad every single meal, I would retch every other time. I would rather satay those veggies in some compound butter along with some chicken and consume them. Yes of course that would add up maybe 100kcal more but I am fine with it since I'd rather consume those extra 100kcal than ruin my meals and possibly cheat on it every other day, because that defeats the whole purpose.
Try to understand what you enjoy to eat and that can only be done if you start exploring. There will be various foods which are good for you and perfect for your diet, something you can consume everyday. Yes this will take time so don't rush into it, do it step by step. Nowadays almost every food item is having a lower calorie version of it, so you can choose that alternative or you could place the respective item in your diet and cut those calories off somewhere else. If you suddenly become very restrictive with your diet you are sure to falter, take it step by step, gradually. If you don't lose 10 Kgs in one month that's fine. Even if you lose 5 kgs in a year, that is PROGRESS! And nobody can take it away from you.
This applies to your workout as well. If all of a sudden you start hitting the gym 6x a week then you are sure to burn out. You will succumb to injuries and soreness and most likely fail to hit the gym the very next week. Start with basic bodyweight exercises for your body. Start with full body workouts 3x a week. For example, Pushups for Chest, Shoulder and Triceps; Pullups for Back and Biceps; Squats for Legs; Situps for Core/Abdomen. These are all body weight exercises and can be done anywhere without any excuses. You can increase the overload by adding more sets and performing each set to failure. This itself upon being consistent will show promising updates and will provide you enough motivation to work harder.
Finally, we all have highs and lows throughout every single year. Especially 2020 has not been fair to most of us, so remember that it is absolutely fine if you missed your meal, it is absolutely fine if you didn't go to the gym, it is absolutely fine if you splurged on that Pizza. Just get back up the next day and continue your work. Setbacks, be it major or minor are absolutely a part of life, so treat them with love, recover and return back to square one. Let us know in the comments down below how consistent you have been so far in 2021?
