Men are controlling more than 80 percent of the earth's surface while women are controlling only less than 20 percent. The gap is terribly large due to the long global history of forbidding women to own private property. This was usually due to lack of access by the law. The sad thing is that we have learned over time to trivialize women way too much and to believe that their equality is something nice to have, rather than something important that we must have.
How could women in every industry and occupation be okay with being economically subordinate? It’s actually a totalized belief system. This belief system is about how some women see their best interests as being. Some women believe that if they can’t earn a living, then their best shot at having a good life is to marry a rich man. For that to happen, they believe they have to act a "certain way" and do "certain things" to achieve that. Even in some religions, things like women have no souls, or women can’t achieve Nirvana are told. When these kinds of beliefs are what we are surrounded by everywhere, we naturally tend to think that’s how it should be. This really impacts gender inequality because even if capital laws were more free, women from most conservative parts of the world would have these beliefs that are not along the lines of them starting entrepreneurship in the first place.
Basically, it’s a larger process of changing the norms and not just about lifting laws or regulations. I would say that, first of all, women need to recognize their power. They do have the power they’re not using. It’s important as a society and as every individual to come together on fixing this. It all starts at women believing in themselves that they have the potential.
