Health apps influencing Healthy Behaviors

Do you have at least one app installed in your phone that regulates your workouts , food routine and overall well being? Has it contributed to your well being and awareness regarding health? You haven't deleted it so I will assume it has.

Recently Apple took on an initiative with the government of Singapore, to help get citizens more active and thus healthier. Residents would require an Apple Watch and an iPhone app called LumiaHealth (which goes live on App Store in October). They will receive cash prizes worth $280 to $380 because of activities like running, meditation, swimming and even sleeping adequately. A motivated resident could even redeem the price of the Apple Watch or even buy the new iPhone 12! ( PS: It’s just a random thought )

Some apps out there which can look after different aspects of your health. ( I know you’re not a baby but adults do get careless when it comes to self care )

Don’t forget to Hydrate

AquaAlert and Hydro Coach will remind you to drink more ( don’t get too excited I am talking about water ). Some people just forget to drink water because of their busy lives. Yikes! And it is pretty normal. I feel severely thirsty right now in fact! Should have kept the water bottle by my side.

Drinking less than an adequate amount of water has a lot of cons, but it also leads to a stinky breath. Water drinking apps remind you to drink water, which you’d forget otherwise.

Track menstruation better

Flo is an app which let’s young women track their cycles better and predict when they will get their period. That’s just the beginning though. It also guides women through their cycle, noting down their moods and symptoms. Gathering knowledge about female anatomy has not been easier! In brief, this app helps women understand themselves!

Eat better

MyFitnessPal app helps you to exactly know what you’re eating ( calories, carbs, fat, proteins you know the drill ). Look up any dish, any amount of quantity and you know what you’re supposed to eat and what you shouldn’t.

Shazam app has a feature which lets you snap a shot of any kind of food and it gives you the entire “profile” of what you would eat using Artificial Intelligence. Although it may not recognize some Indian recipes because the model trained hasn’t been fed with it. (A Machine Learning enthusiast would get this joke)

Do you even Sleep?

SleepWatcher an iPhone App (you would also need the Apple watch to make this work) would regulate your sleeping schedule and help you improve your sleep cycle. Sleep is a luxury for many , but it doesn’t have to be. Control your binge watching instincts on Netflix late at night, listen to those reminders on the app and read boring magazines! Also better sleep would keep you motivated throughout the rest of the day, so that you can go for a run or attend that cool mixed martial arts class, you have always wanted to go to!

Health apps have made being fit a little more cheap for people. We don’t have to shed extra money for different trainers, dieticians or doctors (Yikes!). But above all being healthy is more accessible now! If you look at your daily vitals and stats after a good run you would feel motivated to run even more (if I don’t take into account the monetary benefits some platforms provide).
