When we bring up the topic of gender inequality, we mostly discuss the economy and cultural beliefs. One topic we fail to give importance to is parental care. Although we have all this glamorous contemporary feminism with its rejection of all the old stereotypes, there is still a gap that exists between women and men when it comes to the topic of caring. Although things have been moving along very slowly when it comes to women’s rights, we have moved in the correct direction. Men’s participation in work at home has also increased at a steady pace. All this has covered up the fact that women are still the ones taking more responsibility regarding home care.
This pandemic has really opened our eyes to see things for what it is. Women are still taking on more childcare compared to men. This is especially hard for the working moms who have to take care of their job/business, cooking, cleaning, and caring for the kids. This pressure on working mothers has led to many being pressured into leaving their jobs or taking unpaid leaves. This pandemic situation has brought many issues to light including the need to think of women's’ needs. It’s not fair for a mother to have to take on full responsibility for the gaps left by her husband or society. All this time caring has been undervalued and needs urgent attention.
Post-Pandemic, there is a need for a true investment in the areas of childcare and parental leave. We need services that build a caring society because it takes more than just our private family to raise children and care for our members. The only way to build a more equal society post-pandemic is to recognize the common issues faced by women because this pandemic has exposed the truth that women are still doing most of the caring in our society because caring is undervalued. Creating a system where people are rotating the role of a caregiver for a specified amount of time would help. Opening up about the issue is part of self-expression. This is a healthy-minded dynamic feminine trait that everyone should keep in mind.
