Favourite Food Joints in Vellore

By: Raghav Khattar

I’ve just reached the final stage in my college life at VIT. Yes, I’m in my final year now, in a flash and after some time, all of us will reach the end of the road and then finally leave Vellore. Vellore has been a bittersweet place. Though Vellore is not known for its food, it offers some really delectable food items which one can’t get over easily, and the first such item which comes to my mind is the “Cheese Stick” from Limra, a delicacy that has a separate fan base among VITians. I’ve heard this from so many people now, it is one of the first things that a person must try after coming to Vellore. It’s like a blast of flavours in your mouth and a true delight for your taste buds. And the other food items on their menu also become favourites, and Limra is a go-to place for most VITians, yes, all the three restaurants.

Next place that probably is any VITian’s getaway is TaraMaa. We all have been here, and the vibe this place offers is way too amazing, no restaurant can match its taste. It’s one of those special, just Vellore things, which remain close to one’s heart even after leaving this place. Like what’s better than having a filling meal in TaraMaa on a lazy weekend.

The next place on my list is Oh! Cheat Day. This has to be one of the best cafes in town, the food it offers is incredible. The waffles, the pancakes, the fries, pull-apart garlic bread and the brownies they serve are the best in the game. This place is best for dates. It’s probably the fanciest place near VIT.

Moving on, we have Earth Plate, another place for special treats. Their sizzlers are really mouth-watering, the quality of food is great, and so is its taste. This place has a superb ambience and a vast menu and most of the items on their menu good.

Next on the list is Lalit Vihar, this place is special as it offers tasty North Indian Vegetarian food in Vellore and this is a go-to place for Vegetarians. Their Marwadi thalis are delicious and are really filling, this place is perfect for vegetarians and for people who are missing their North-Indian food. This place is a must-try for you all.

Now, if you want to have some good South Indian food, Sarvana Bhavan is the place that you should go to. Their South Indian Thalis are excellent. This is the place where you would find your long dosas.

We have KFC in town now, and that’s great, but if you haven’t had Chick In, you’ve missed out Vellore’s best fried chicken. The meals this place offers are too good. Their burgers, fries and fried chicken are very delectable. This place also offers unlimited refills of Pepsi with their meals and complimentary ice cream at the end of the meal.

Other favourites include momos from the Eden Momos, in front of Gate-1, Fruit Juices from the juice shop near All Mart, Blue Berry Cheesecake from Tom’s Diner, Ramba Chicken from Saleem Dhaba, Andhra Special Biriyani from Andhra Spice, Shawarma from Hart Lounge, Dal Makhani from Apna Dhaba, Chole Bhature from Gaura Sabroso, Dosas, Sandwiches and the juices from FC, Kulhad Chai from Bunkers Pyaali and Samosas from the SMV juice shop.

These special food items are exclusive to Vellore, and I will surely miss them after leaving VIT.
