I came across this quote quite a while ago, and it has since struck me that we tend to focus on just the acquiring aspect of life: how to become more confident, gain new skills, keep up with the latest fashion trends and acclimatize ourselves to become socially acceptable. But we often don't realize how important detoxification is for the maintenance of our sanity.
Detoxification in simple words can be described as getting rid of anything that we feel is toxic. It can be on any level- physical, mental and even spiritual. Come to think of it, have you ever realized how there exist so many things in our life that we just cling on to, only because we are used to having them around. These can be certain habits like being overly dependent on someone, having irregular sleep cycles or even things like a super stuffed closet full of clothes that you think you are going to use on some occasion but that occasion never comes. Not only materialistic objects, but so many people in your life that you once had nice equations with but now don’t really enjoy their existence in your life anymore, and are just attached to the past versions of who they used to be.
You want to make a change, start with yourself first. Use this prevalent situation to declutter yourself, your habits and the people in your life.
Physical detoxification is the easiest. If you are a lazy person who can’t really follow a timetable? Set everyday goals instead. Could be anything from taking a break from junk and oily food and going all green with smoothies and salads, or it could also include habits like waking up early in the morning and watching the sunrise, or even cleaning your room. This could encompass literally anything since in this case, the sky is the limit.
Mental detoxification can include yoga or meditating. Take a break from your busy schedule. Keep just one day for yourself. Be selfish. Do whatever makes you happy. Take a break from your mobile phone, even go off social media if it helps. Replace your books and laptop for just a day with maybe oven gloves and cake recipes and at the end of the day make sure that you ask yourself this question- ‘did this make me happy?’
Contact list detoxification can be a little tough to be honest. This doesn’t mean you shut people out for the most minute problems but rather just means that you surround yourself with the people who are good for you- who support you and your crazy new ventures. Life has and will always throw new challenges at you, why not face them with less of critiques and more of supporters around.
Maybe it's time we use this pandemic to live our lives with a totally different perspective, hit that detox button and heal our body, mind and soul.
