In this article, we are going to look at two of the simplest yet most powerful composition rules when it comes to Photography- Leading lines and Frame in a frame.


Leading lines are lines in the photograph, which help in guiding the viewer’s eyes towards the subject or wherever the photographer wants to guide the viewer’s eyes.

Whenever we look at an image, we subconsciously notice the lines in the image and follow these lines to see where they go. Using this attribute to our advantage is what leading lines are all about.

Leading lines are all around us, you just move around and observe, and you’ll be able to notice and utilize so many leading lines like roads, fences, walls, windows, rivers, train tracks, cliffs, etc.…

It takes some time to adjust your eye to look for leading lines, but once you get accustomed to it, it becomes second nature.

Frame in a frame


Frame in a frame composition is achieved by framing the subject or a part of the image inside a frame in the image. This adds a lot of depth and character to the image. This style of composition is widely used in street photography.
